I admire them not only for their technical mastery but for their imaginative, singular handling of their subject matter. For me they possess a keen element of zeitgeist. By which I don’t mean fashionable or meritorious, but rather that they are very assured in their narratives. They invite us in to a specific moment in time, touching on explicit realities of Indian life, either by reflecting on the past or locating their subject very firmly in the present.”
